A Message From the State Deputy

August 25, 2008

Dear Brothers,

The State Convention held in Quebec City August 5, 6, and 7 was most informative. Vernon Buote and Marion as well as Marion and I travelled together to the convention. We enjoyed it very much and the Convention was informative. I will have more information on the Convention when I tie it in with our State Council Meeting to be held Saturday, September 13, 2008 at 10 pm in the Tignish Chambers. Please let your District Deputy know how many will be attending form your Council and DD’s please let me know by Sept 7, 2008 how many will be attending from your District as I need to let GK Percy Fennessy know how many are attending so lunch can be prepared for the appropriate numbers.

I am most pleased with how events are already taking shape early in the year. For example:

  1. The State Golf Tournament held on August 17. 2008 was a delightful success. Thanks to PSD Ralph Dunn and his committee for hosting this event. The fellowship and fund that came out of that is one example of what happens when a Knight’s event is held. Thanks Ralph and Committee.
  2. An Information (“Training” ) Session was conduct by PSD Vernon Buote and DD Pat O’Connor on July 13 in Summerside and again on August 25 in Morell. I was most pleased with the turnout for both events. For the Summerside session we had was well represented by  Souris (#2193), Vernon River (#7105), Summerside (#2070), Kensington (#12465), Wellington (#14, 530), Cornwall (#10808), North Rustico (#9025), Holy Redeemer (#7748), and Palmer Road (#8966). In Morell on August 25 we had representatives from Our Lady of Fatima, Charlottetown (#824): Kensington (Council #12465); Wellington (#14530); Morell (#7617); Souris (# 2193); St. Eugene (#8348), North Rustico (#9025); Montague (#7274). Attending one or both of these sessions was three of the five District Deputies. The information and training was a great learning experience. I have learned much from it. Thanks again Vern and Pat.
  3. Congratulations to District Deputy Gaye Hood who hosted a very successful District 5 meeting on July 30.  Three of the four councils of District 5 were represented.
  4. Saturday September 13, 10am to 4pm State Council Meeting in Tignish.
  5. Saturday September 20 Seven Mile Bay Pilgrimage sponsored by the 4th Degree.
  6. Sunday, September 21 Third Degree St. Dunstan’s Basicilia. Candidates are asked to be there by 1:30pm.
  7. October is Soccer Challenge Month. State Chair Wayne Gallant is running a ‘Trial Contents” at the local level in preparation for full State competition the following year. Councils at the local level are encouraged to run a challenge at the local level.
  8. Congratulations to North Rustico Council #9025 for appearing on the Supreme Web Site with their float o Canada (Click on www.kofc.org, link to News and Events, then to Knights in Action and scroll down to Eastern Canada.)
  9. You will find a great source of information and membership on the Leadership Guide (Click on www.peikofc.com and then on Leadership guide.)

Fraternally, Alvin Curley, State Deputy

Dear Grand Knights and All Brother Knights:

I encourage you to submit a Family of the Month from your Council to Supreme monthly, or at least a few times a year I noticed in Suprem's listing for July that both New Brunswick and Nova Scotia had a Family of the Month.

Another item I would like to have input from you on is what you might recommend that we, on behalf of the PEI Jurisdiction, donate to the Supreme Museum in New Haven, Connecticut. One thing I was looking at, as part of the donation is a Lady Slipper made out of iron. I will check this out for costs and bring to the Executive and State.

Thank you and God Bless you.

Fraternally,

Alvin Curley
State Deputy
