Brothers In Christ:

As I have been mentioning for several months now, the March For Life will take place this Thursday, May 8, 2008. Following the noon Mass, we will gather at the front of the Basilica and will march to the PEI Legislature. We will have short talks by our own State Deputy as well as the CWL, Priests for Life and the Right to Life Association. The CWL have taken the lead on this March for the past several years and I enthusiastically encourage participation by all Brother Knights and their families to help bring attention to this most basic of issues.

I realize for many the time may not be convenient. I challenge all to make a small sacrifice (maybe even missing lunch) to promote the importance of this fundamental right, the right upon which all others rest. As we reaffirmed at our recent state meeting, the Knights of Columbus are unambiguously and proudly pro-life. This event provides us the opportunity to "walk the talk".

We are also challenged by our Bishops who through the Catholic Organization for Life and Family (COLF) invite all Canadian citizens who respect human life to walk in support of the first of all human rights: the right to life. With respect to this right, our country is in need not only of legislative reform, but also of a great cultural renewal. One aspect of this renewal is the building of a new awareness of the worth and dignity of every human life from conception to natural death.

Life is the first and greatest of all our gifts. It is a miracle of creation that gives rise to all other rights. Where there is no life, there are no rights; where human life exists, its inherent dignity and worth demand unconditional respect.  Respect for life, especially of the weakest among us, is also the gauge by which respect for other human rights may be measured. Where the first of all rights is not protected, is it surprising that other rights are disrespected?
Once again, I urge your support of this March among your Councils. I also encourage all Brothers in attendance to wear their vests to visibly demonstrate the Knights strong support of life from conception to natural death.

Fraternally,

Knights of Columbus Day of the Unborn Child

Prayers for the end of abortion and other offenses against human life will be the centerpiece of the annual Knights of Columbus Day of the Unborn Child. The observance is scheduled for the feast of the Annunciation, which has been moved this year to March 31 so not to conflict with Easter Week. Please consider sponsoring a prayer service in your Parish utilizing the free resources available from Supreme Council. Abortionist Morgentaler Not on Order of Canada List for 2008

LifeSiteNews reports on February 20 that Dr. Morgentaler will not be awarded the Order of Canada as feared by all the Pro-Life community. Your prayers & other efforts on behalf of the unborn are appreciated. See more at the following link: http://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2008/feb/080220.html#3

Bill C-484, the Unborn Victims of Crime Act

UPDATE: Mr. Epp's Private Members bill has been sent to committee for further review which is a positive step. Your continued efforts to sign & return the attached petition is still needed.

Ken Epp, MP from Alberta introduced Bill C-484, the Unborn Victims of Crime Act in the House of Commons on November 21, 2007. Canada is unique in the democratic world for having virtually no legal protection for children before they are born. This legislation seeks to address this injustice by creating an offence for injuring or causing the death of an unborn child during the commission of an offence against the child's pregnant mother.

Much more information is available on Mr. Epp's website: http://www.kenepp.com/
